COAS Appeals to UN Chief for International Support in Achieving Gaza Ceasefire
COAS Urges UN Chief for Swift International Action on Gaza Ceasefire
Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir has called on United Nations Secretary-General Antonio to rally the global community for an immediate halt to hostilities in Gaza, aiming to avert the unfolding human tragedy.
During a meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York, General Munir emphasized that a “lasting solution to the issue lies in a two-state solution,” as stated in a press release by the Inter-Services Public Relations on Saturday.
In response to Hamas’s October 7 attack, Israel’s assault has resulted in the reported death of approximately 19,000 people, with thousands more feared buried under rubble, according to Gaza health authorities.
Aid agencies have long appealed for Israel to expedite deliveries to Gaza’s 2.3 million residents, warning of potential mass starvation and disease.
The meeting between COAS Munir and the UN chief occurred during the army chief’s visit to the United States.
During his ongoing visit, COAS Munir engaged with key U.S. government and military officials, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of Defense General Lloyd J Austin (Retd), Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, Deputy National Security Adviser Jonathan Finer, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Charles Q Brown.
The UNSG acknowledged these concerns and thanked COAS Munir for the visit to the UN headquarters.
