‘Fraudulent Marriage’ Case: Khawar Maneka’s Legal Representative Fails to Appear in Court.
A district and sessions court in Islamabad postponed the hearing of a case involving the former prime minister and first lady over allegations of fraudulent marriage and fornication until 11 am on Monday due to the non-appearance of the complainant’s attorney in court.
The proceedings were presided over by Senior Civil Judge Qudratullah.
At the start of the hearing, the assistant lawyer representing Khawar Maneka’s counsel, Rizwan Abbasi, informed the court that Abbasi was in the high court and requested a break from the proceedings.
The assistant lawyer assured the court that Abbasi would appear by 11 am, prompting the court to adjourn the hearing until that time.
Last month, Khawar Maneka filed a private complaint against Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in Islamabad’s court, citing sections 34 (common intention), 496 (fraudulent marriage ceremony), and 496B (fornication) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
He also submitted a statement under Section 200 (examination of complainant) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
According to Maneka, he reluctantly divorced Bushra on November 14, 2017, with reconciliation in mind before February 2018. However, he claimed that his plans for reconciliation were thwarted due to the premature nikah (marriage) of both respondents during the iddah (waiting) period.
This development followed Khawar’s interview with Geo News, where he accused former Prime Minister Khan of ruining his life, alleging that he had a happy married life until Khan met his ex-wife in Lahore under the guise of “peeri mureedi” (spiritual guidance).
“We were leading a happy married life until Imran Khan ruined it under the guise of peeri mureedi,” Khawar stated.
Imran Khan married Bushra Maneka, a respected Pir (faith healer) in Pakpattan, on February 18, 2018.
