Restructuring Balochistan’s Governance System to Enhance Efficiency: PM Kakar
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar announced significant efforts to streamline the governance structure in Balochistan, emphasizing reforms in the bureaucracy. During a press conference in Quetta on Tuesday, he highlighted the importance of deploying a combination of honest and diligent bureaucrats from the civil service and the provincial structure to address the chronic and complex issues faced by the province.
Anwaar-ul-Haq stated, “Our issues are linked with bad governance, which has adversely affected the province’s performance for the last few decades.” In response to a request from the Balochistan government, he appointed competent bureaucrat Shakeel Qadir Khan and a team to ensure meritocracy and streamline the overall bureaucracy.
The prime minister specifically instructed the team to fully support the Chief Minister and the provincial government in these endeavors. He acknowledged the presence of a group of corrupt bureaucrats and other stakeholders who had negatively impacted the entire province, leading to adverse effects on the national economy.
Anwaar-ul-Haq expressed hope that the incoming elected government would remain vigilant in implementing reforms. Responding to concerns from nationalist parties about holding free and fair elections in the province, he characterized it as a routine matter, stating that these parties express their views to their voters.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to conducting free and fair elections nationwide, he assured that the Election Commission of Pakistan would fulfill its duty appropriately. He emphasized the government’s responsibility to manage day-to-day affairs, implement state matters, and oversee the electoral process.
