“PTI Challenges Alleged Seizure of Nomination Papers in Lahore High Court”

On Thursday, the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) lodged a legal challenge in the Lahore High Court against the purported confiscation of nomination papers by the police. The petition, filed by Umair Niazi, names the Inspector General of Police and other involved parties in the case.

The petition argues that preventing individuals from participating in elections constitutes a violation of the Constitution. It calls for the court to take action against those responsible for the alleged theft of the nomination papers. Furthermore, the PTI demands that the court intervene to halt any harassment against its leaders.

In response to the situation, the PTI has also decided to approach the Election Commission of Pakistan, expressing concerns over the reported seizure of nomination papers belonging to their leaders and the perceived lack of a level playing field.

Allegations have been raised by PTI leader Umair Niazi’s father, accusing Mianwali’s Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of confiscating nomination papers intended for himself and his son. Additionally, PTI Chairman Gohar Khan claimed that nomination papers were taken from the secretary of former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

PTI leader Taimur Ali Jhagra highlighted a similar issue in an interview with Aaj News, stating, “We are not getting a level playing field.”
