Severe Fog Blankets Central Punjab, Increasing Accident Risks

Fog blankets Punjab, disrupts traffic on major highways

Dense mist shrouded the urban areas of central Punjab, including Lahore, exacerbating the peril of accidents due to reduced visibility.

The intensity of the mist prompted the closure of several sections of the motorway to traffic. Residents claim that even fog lights prove ineffective in numerous locations.

A local resident mentioned that major thoroughfares across Lahore often teemed with trucks and loaders, posing hazards in the misty conditions without adequate street lighting.

The frequency of traffic incidents in Lahore has surged owing to the mist. In a particular incident, a vehicle transporting a family from Narowal to Lahore plunged into a ravine in Chungi Amar Sadhu, resulting in the tragic death of one person.

The Director General of Rescue 1122 urged the public to prioritize punctuality, emphasizing that rushing on roads contributed to a high number of accidents. He also advised people to halt their journeys during dense mist instead of persisting through.

The DG further highlighted that the mist compounded the challenge of inaccessibility for rescue vehicles, rendering them incapable of reaching accident sites promptly.
