Islamabad High Court Raises Questions Over Neutrality of Caretaker Government

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday raised concerns about the neutrality of the caretaker government as Pakistan approaches crucial general elections scheduled for February next year.

Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb reprimanded the interim government, criticizing it for running a “terrible system” in the country. The judge expressed doubts over the government’s intentions in conducting the upcoming polls and questioned whether the caretaker government wants to derail the elections. The remarks were made during the hearing of a plea filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Barrister Gauhar Khan and other lawyers seeking to meet Imran Khan in jail. The court granted permission for the meeting and emphasized the importance of allowing consultations for elections as a fundamental right, urging the caretaker government to remain neutral in the electoral process.
