As Pakistan bids farewell to 2023, the nation is poised for elevated expectations in 2024, having witnessed numerous achievements in diverse sectors over the past year. A key highlight has been the groundbreaking endeavors of Pakistani women, breaking barriers and leaving an indelible mark on various fronts, as reported on Sunday.
Notable milestones include the unveiling of a wax figure at Madame Tussauds’ museum in Dubai, portraying former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. This marked a historic moment as the first representation of a Pakistani personality at the renowned museum. In March, the appointment of British-Pakistani diplomat Fouzia Younis as the consul general to Toronto made her the first British Muslim to hold this position, thereby providing representation to the Pakistani diaspora abroad.
Within the legal arena, the Lahore High Court Bar Association witnessed a groundbreaking moment with the election of Sabahat Rizvi as its first woman secretary since its inception in 1893. Justice Musarrat Hilali’s swearing-in as the first woman chief justice of the Peshawar High Court marked another significant development. Later, she etched her name in history again by becoming the Supreme Court’s second woman judge.
Adding to the diversification of representation, the Supreme Court appointed its inaugural female registrar. Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa appointed Jazeela Aslam, Additional District, and Sessions Judge from Okara, to this crucial role, reinforcing the commitment to inclusivity and gender diversity.
