Choose Between Constitution and Feudal System in Pakistan: CJP
Islamabad: The session on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) contempt of court petition concerning a fair playing field is currently in progress in the Supreme Court today (Wednesday).
As per the particulars, a three-member bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, alongside Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musarat Hilali, is overseeing the case.
Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa requested PTI attorney Shoaib Shaheen to approach the rostrum for arguments since it was his application.
Attorney Shoaib Shaheen remarked: “Latif Khosa is a seasoned lawyer, and I have sought arguments from him, standing in solidarity with him.”
Chief Justice expressed dissatisfaction with the inclusion of ‘Sardar’ along with Latif Khosa’s name.
He mentioned, “Cease incorporating terms like Sardar, Nawab, and Peer. The feudal system ended in 1976; either govern the country in accordance with the Constitution of Pakistan or through constitutional means. Refrain from mocking the constitution.”
Attorney Latif Khosa clarified that ‘Sardar’ is mentioned on his identity card; therefore, it has also been included in the court.
Addressing Latif Khosa, the Chief Justice instructed him to discard titles like Sardar and Nawab and liberate himself. He urged him not to attempt to elevate his status by using such titles.
Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar pointed out that this is a contempt of court petition, not a fresh case; the primary case was concluded on December 22.
“Your petition includes the names of numerous individuals who have disrespected the court. Has the Election Commission committed contempt of court, or has the ECP made any decisions regarding you, or has it issued orders to the Provincial Election Commission?” Justice Mazhar posed multiple questions.
