Ahmed Shehzad retires from PSL, says Goodbye
Pakistan batsman Ahmed Shehzad has made a surprising announcement, declaring his retirement from the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Shehzad, who was not selected by any of the six franchises in the PSL 2024 player draft, shared a comprehensive message on his X profile on Friday, formally bidding farewell to the PSL and expressing his commitment to never play for any of the six franchises.
In a pictorial message on his X profile, Ahmed Shehzad wrote, “A heartfelt farewell to the Pakistan Super League! I find myself writing this note, something I didn’t anticipate this year. Another PSL draft has passed, and the same narrative repeats – I wasn’t selected. The reasons behind this remain unknown to me.”
“I’ve made considerable efforts by consistently performing in the domestic circuit over the past few years. I also had a commendable showing in the National T20 Cup just before the PSL draft. Despite this, it appears there’s a deliberate effort to exclude me, even when franchises have chosen other players with inferior statistics. However, in situations where everything is predetermined, such details become inconsequential,” he added. Shehzad mentioned he is aware of the reason for his exclusion and promised to reveal more details soon.
The 32-year-old also accused all six franchises of conspiring against him to prevent his participation in the PSL. He asserted that he decided to leave the PSL to uphold his self-respect. Shehzad confirmed his commitment to participating in the domestic circuit and delivering strong performances to earn a recall to the Pakistan team. “I am parting ways and bidding farewell to the Pakistan Super League for my own self-respect. I have never played for financial gain, and I will continue to follow that principle. While many opt for international leagues worldwide, I have chosen to dedicate myself to the domestic circuit to demonstrate my passion for the game and to once again don the Green Flag. I am making this decision without any financial considerations (despite receiving numerous contract offers to play in other leagues). I will not participate in the PSL again with these six teams. It appears to be a collective decision to keep me away from the PSL, and all franchises seem to be in agreement,” he remarked.
