Barrister Gohar Criticizes ECP’s Action, Pledges Legal Challenge
Challenging the legitimacy of the petition filed by Akbar S. Babar, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced its intention to contest the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to nullify intra-party elections by taking the matter to the Lahore High Court (LHC).
Barrister Gohar, the recently elected chairman of the party, led the charge, expressing defiance and a hint of indignation in his words. He declared, “We will fight for a free election,” accusing the electoral watchdog of a pre-meditated conspiracy against PTI.
Gohar raised doubts about the credibility of Akbar S. Babar, highlighting that Babar’s standing within the party is not well-established. He emphasized PTI’s commitment to transparency, stating that no other political entity has undergone such rigorous scrutiny.
Expressing optimism about the High Court’s intervention, Gohar underscored PTI’s non-acceptance of the ECP’s decision. He clarified that the party did not participate in the election contest, asserting that he was elected uncontested as the PTI Chairman, with the nomination endorsed by Imran Khan himself. However, following the Commission’s ruling annulling the intra-party election, Gohar’s chairmanship and the party’s symbol were revoked.
