Election 2024: Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Takes on Sharif Brothers in Their Political Stronghold
PPP Chief Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari Set to Challenge Sharif Brothers in Lahore Stronghold, Expected to File Nomination Papers for NA-128 Constituency Today
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is gearing up to contest the upcoming February 8 polls in Lahore, challenging the traditionally dominant Sharif brothers. Sources revealed that Bilawal has chosen to vie for a seat in Lahore’s NA-128 constituency, a stronghold historically secured by the PML-N in previous elections.
Alongside Bilawal, Hafiz Mohiuddin and Misbah-ur-Rehman are also slated to submit their nomination papers for provincial assembly seats within the same constituency. Sources indicated that Bilawal is expected to file his nomination papers on Friday, as December 22 marks the deadline for submission.
Despite calls from various political parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), for an extension on the nomination deadline, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has yet to make a decision. PML-N’s Mian Ahmed Subhan is set to compete against Bilawal in the NA-128 constituency.
In addition to Bilawal, other notable figures such as PML-N’s Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif are anticipated to enter the electoral race in Lahore. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has also declared his intention to contest polls from three constituencies, including Lahore.
