Fazl Warns ECP of Accountability if JUI-F Workers Suffer Injuries During Elections
Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F, issued a stern warning on Thursday, holding the Election Commission of Pakistan accountable if any worker from his party is harmed or loses their life during the upcoming general elections.
During a press conference addressing the Chief Election Commissioner’s recent statements regarding the law and order situation in two provinces, Maulana Fazlur Rehman emphasized that the nation’s focus is on February 8, stating that his party intends to actively participate in the general elections. He highlighted the unrest in two provinces and urged authorities to ensure both peace and a smooth electoral process.
Expressing concern, Maulana Fazlur Rehman conveyed that if any JUI worker is injured or martyred, the Chief Election Commissioner would bear direct responsibility. He also voiced apprehension that insecurity might deter people from voting. Questioning the independent status of the Election Commission, he pointed out that seeking court approval for the election schedule raises doubts about its autonomy.
Responding to a query about the alleged snatching of nomination papers from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidates, Maulana Fazlur Rehman criticized the act as fundamentally wrong. Regarding the cases and detentions of PTI leaders, he asserted that the focus on PTI is not unwarranted but rather deserved attention.
