Man files Rs500,000 compensation notice against boutique owner. States he paid Rs20,000 as an advance for a sherwani. Court calls boutique owner for hearing on January 2, 2024.

RAWALPINDI: On Sunday, a man approached the consumer court in Rawalpindi, alleging that he was provided with an old sherwani for his cousin’s wedding by a local boutique.

The citizen, identified as Usman Shabbir, served a compensation notice to the owner of the local boutique, demanding Rs500,000.

In the notice, Shabbir claimed that the boutique owner requested Rs20,000 to create a new sherwani, and an advance payment of Rs15,000 was made.

“The boutique owner delivered an old sherwani instead of a newly designed one,” stated the notice, citing a violation of the Punjab Consumer Protection Act 2005.

The district consumer court has summoned the boutique owner for a hearing on January 2, 2024 (Tuesday). Shabbir had placed an order for a sherwani from the boutique on September 8.

A sherwani is a knee-length coat buttoning to the neck, traditionally worn by men in South Asia, especially at weddings.
