MQM-P Leaders Raza Haroon and Anees Advocate Officially Join PPP
Ahead of the upcoming February 8 general elections, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has enlisted the support of former Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) politicians Raza Haroon and Anees Advocate.
The announcement of the veteran politicians’ alignment with the PPP followed their meeting with former president and the party’s co-chairman, Asif Ali Zardari, in the provincial capital of Sindh. The city has become a focal point for political realignments as the elections draw near.
Raza Haroon, a former provincial minister, had previously joined Mustafa Kamal’s Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) in 2016 but later parted ways with this faction. On the other hand, Anees was also an MQM dissenter who joined the PSP in 2016.
It’s worth noting that the PSP had merged with the MQM-Pakistan earlier in the year.
In an official statement released by the PPP, Zardari welcomed Haroon and Anees, both former members of MQM’s Rabita Committee, into the party fold. The meeting primarily focused on the “Charter of Karachi,” addressing issues related to development, establishing peace and security, and fostering a friendly environment in the port city.
Zardari emphasized the far-reaching impact of the PPP’s Charter of Karachi on the city’s future, asserting that the PPP stands as the party of the people of Karachi. The statement quoted Zardari, “We are working to restore the lights which were taken away by the rivals of peace and the merchants of hate.”
During the discussion, the former president highlighted PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s 10-point election agenda. Zardari expressed the party’s commitment to introducing impactful developmental projects in Karachi and across Pakistan, aiming to alleviate the challenges faced by the common man amidst inflation.
