Ravi Shastri Advocates Support for Shaheen to Lead Pace Attack
Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri suggests Shaheen Shah Afridi needs support to handle the pressure of leading Pakistan’s pace attack.
“The challenge for Shaheen is the burden of being the focal point of the Pakistan attack without adequate support at the other end in terms of pace,” he remarked as Pakistan faced Australia on their home turf.
The Shan Masood-led team struggled to contain the Australians, who amassed a significant total on the scoreboard. The Pakistani bowlers appeared to lack pace and displayed shortcomings in their fielding.
While Pakistan is recognized for its formidable pace attack, the team has often been criticized for its subpar fielding, with experts emphasizing the importance of fielding in winning matches.
Australia posted an imposing total of 487 runs in the first innings of the Perth Test, with Pakistan missing opportunities to take wickets. The Pakistani side fielded three fast bowlers, including two relatively inexperienced pacers.
“Not having a bowler even close to 140kph puts immense pressure on someone like Shaheen,” Shastri noted.
