Shah Mahmood Qureshi Sent on Judicial Remand by Rawalpindi Court
Rawalpindi Court Rejects Police Plea, Sends PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi to 14-Day Judicial Remand
A Rawalpindi court on Thursday dismissed the Punjab police’s request for custody of PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi and instead ordered a 14-day judicial remand in a new case related to the May 9 riots.
This decision follows the events of the previous day when Qureshi was manhandled and re-arrested outside Adiala Jail in connection with an attack on the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi on May 9, a day that saw widespread protests across the country following the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Media reports suggest that Qureshi is implicated in a dozen similar cases.
Qureshi had been released from Adiala Jail on Wednesday after the Supreme Court granted him post-arrest bail in a cipher case. However, the PTI leader, attempting to communicate with the Punjab police, was forcibly taken from the prison amid mistreatment and transported to the Cantt police station.
Presented before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Syed Jahangir Ali, Qureshi now faces a 14-day judicial remand in connection with the fresh case linked to the May 9 riots.
