Today Marks the Observation of International Human Solidarity Day
Today, International Human Solidarity Day is being observed worldwide, including in Pakistan.
This day aims to emphasize the crucial importance of collective unity among human beings in addressing global challenges. On Human Solidarity Day, the international community joins forces to commit to adopting measures that enhance the well-being of the global population and combat poverty, hunger, and diseases.
The focus of the day revolves around people, the planet, and human rights. Governments worldwide are reminded of their obligations under international agreements to promote human solidarity in the fight against poverty.
In recognition of the significance of solidarity, on December 22, 2005, the United Nations General Assembly identified it as a fundamental and universal value underlying relations between peoples in the twenty-first century. December 20 was then declared International Human Solidarity Day. Furthermore, on December 20, 2002, the General Assembly established the World Solidarity Fund, which became a trust fund of the United Nations Development Programme in February 2003.
The fund’s purpose is to eliminate poverty and illness, as well as to foster human and social development in developing countries. This observance serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to work together for a better and more inclusive world.
