Warner’s 57 Guides Australia to Series Sweep in Decisive Final Test
In his farewell Test match, David Warner’s opportunity to score the match-winning runs was denied, but his valuable contribution of 57 helped Australia easily chase down the target of 130 runs, securing an eight-wicket victory over Pakistan and completing a 3-0 series sweep on Saturday.
Pakistan, aiming to break a streak of 16 consecutive losses in Australia since 1995, added 47 runs to their overnight total while losing their final three wickets, getting dismissed for 115 just before lunch.
Playing in his 112th Test before retiring from the format, Warner shared a heartfelt hug with opening partner Usman Khawaja at the boundary rope. He received a guard of honor from the opposition as he walked to the crease.
Although Khawaja departed lbw for a duck in the opening over, Warner played with determination, showcasing trademark shots as he cut the ball through the covers for his first four. He reached his 37th Test half-century with a single to square leg, and Australia approached lunch with the victory almost secured at 91-1, needing 39 more runs.
Warner’s innings of 57 featured seven boundaries and a couple of chances before spinner Sajid Khan dismissed him in front, leaving Australia just 11 runs away from victory with a day to spare.
